Quite accessible to the layperson

When Simon Kistemaker took over the completion of the New Testament commentary series upon the death of William Hendriksen, the latter had a worthy successor and one intent on finishing the project in a way that would be true to what Hendriksen envisioned. As with the other commentaries in this series, 2 Corinthians is accessible to the layperson while at the same time providing plenty material for the serious NT scholar. This is accomplished in part by the practice begun by Hendriksen of putting more technical matters (including comments on the Greek text) either in footnotes or in notes at the end of each section. Thus, the layperson can read the commentary on a passage without being bogged down by issues with which he or she may not be familiar.
This commentary has some excellent introductory material, including a section that discusses what is one of the more controversial issues among NT scholars (and even among evangelical scholars), namely, the unity of the text of 2 Corinthians. (Was 2 Corinthians originally a single letter or is it a compilation of letters put together by the Corinthian church? This is an issue that arises because of the abrupt change in tone that takes place at certain junctures in the text.) This introductory material is definitely worth reading if one wants an overview of the epistle.

this completes my set of the "new testament commentary" by Kistemaker and Hendriksen. This is the most unbiased commentary I have read. They go out of their way to give other points of view and then give arguments on each view.
