A Useful Work at an Exhorbitant Price - Get Real on the Price

The History of Ecuador (Greenwood Histories of the Modern Nations (Hardcover))This book may offer a decent concise view of Ecuador's history, but it is way overpriced. Other works in the Greenwood and similar historical survey series are sold for only one third or one quarter the price. The price will have to come way down or ordinary working citizens who want to learn about history and poor students will simply not be able to buy this or similarly overpriced books and read them.
This is a real shame, a symptom of the corruption of higher education by the quest for super profit. I don't know if it occurs to those who set this price that a lower price might lead to more sales and higher total profits.

Quality text, bur pricey

This book provides an excellent overview of Ecuadorian history if you're not looking for a detailed analysis of any one period. If the reader already has a good general grid for Latin American history, the lack of background information is actually helpful because it allows the text to be navigated efficiently without sacrificing substance. The writing is effective and engaging.
The text's only weakness is its exorbitant price.
In sum, the book is an excellent read but it's not a bargain.
