Amazon.com Review
I'm constantly keeping an eye out for interesting colors and designs painted on buildings. Sometimes you can find street art that complements your couple perfectly! This was photographed with a 35mm lens, which is my go-to lens for environmental city portraits.
Darkness was falling when we walked by this great wall, so I bumped my ISO up to 3200. Car headlights are adding a bit of light to the bride's face and creating the interesting shadow under the brim of the groom's hat. I photographed this with my 50mm lens.
The groom instructed each of his groomsmen to show up to the wedding with a different belt buckle and tie. They were all so proud to show them off, and I chose not to ask them to straighten their ties because it added to the fun and casual feel of this photograph. I shot this with my 35mm lens.
Mirrored surfaces can be fabulous tools for photographing details. This was a glass-topped wood desk in a hotel room. I crouched low so that the glass reflected the white wall and the bride's ring, and used my 60mm macro lens.

"Are you looking to break into the busy world of wedding photography? Need some tips on how to shoot those once-in-a-lifetime moments? Try "The Wedding Photography Field Guide" by Michelle Turner. It's packed full of handy hints that are sure to give you the inspiration you need for that special day.. designed to stimulate your creativity and ensure that you get all the shots you need on this happy day. For this reason, both pro and amateur photographers will find this a rewarding read.. The largest section of this book is devoted to the wedding day itself. As you would expect, all the major themes are touched upon here with advice on venues, ceremonies, and formal shots foremost among the offerings. However, there are interesting sections on setting up a photo booth for wedding guests, tips on post-wedding shots that "trash the dress", and examples of photos from seven real weddings that illustrate the kind of approach that Michelle Turner tries to teach you in this book.. a steal for anyone looking for a portable handbook that has all the essential skills needed to be a successful wedding photographer."--BrightHub.com
"The Wedding Photography Field Guide by Michelle Turner shares an impressive amount of information about shooting weddings. It starts with the gear you need and then moves through each part of the wedding day while sharing suggestions about photographing each part. And of course there are lots of beautiful example photographs of each part of the day. There is even information about post-processing, sharing the images, and a bit about the business aspect of wedding photography! A good read for anyone interested in shooting weddings."--MomandCamera.com
"Michelle Turner is a successful destination wedding photographer. Her 'funky and fashionable' shooting style has put her in a position of high-demand amongst her clients whose weddings take the photographer to stunning visual locations such as the Dominican Republic and Mexico. She is both a coveted national speaker and author and has published two books about fashionable wedding photography."--The Candid Frame.com
"Focal Press, the publishing company behind so many great photography technique and instruction titles, has a series of books they call their "Field Guide" series. These books are compact, only slightly larger than a 4x6 photo and about 200 pages. But they are stuffed full of the most crucial info on the topic at hand. Easily tucked into a briefcase or a camera bag, you can take these books anywhere. Read them on the subway on the way to work and make use of that dead time to learn new techniques. Then keep the book in your camera bag as a reference when on location. Subjects range from Weddings to Bird Photography to the DSLR."--Photo.net

The wedding picture menu
By ut158
This product feels more like a 4 star product than a 5, but I couldn't really put my finger on why and I like to have a concrete reason for deducting stars, so we'll stick with 5.
This book, like so many other photography books, starts off telling you about cameras in general, lenses, post-editing, etc. I'm not really going to fault it for that since it's almost the expected norm, but if you have other photo books, I really couldn't see anything you would get from this section that you don't already have. Still, that section was done well--complete enough without being too detailed. I especially liked that the author suggested using a computer with a RAID set up to help prevent data loss. Many times photographers try to tell us what sort of computer this or that to use, but you can tell they really don't know computers very well. I felt that all the advice given in this regard was sound and, while some of it sounded a little over-paranoid (she keeps copies on 3 hard drives (one off site) AND 3 optical discs (one off site), as well as online backups), it is better to take this approach than what most of us do (no backup at all).
I liked how the book was done. It is written in small sections--usually only a page spread or 2 long (and a page spread isn't much because this is a tiny book). This makes it easy to skip past a section you may not be interested in without feeling like you missed anything.
A good part of the middle of the book focuses on various events/photo ops before, during or after the wedding day and ways to make the most of them. This almost made it feel like a menu you may order lunch from, except that we are dealing with photos instead of food. From this aspect, a couple getting ready to have their wedding may do well picking up this book and seeing if there is anything they want to make sure their photographer captures. As a side note, I was surprised to see that the bouquet toss did not have a section of its own (it was listed under the "Other" section).
The author makes it clear that she uses Nikon cameras and an Apple computer for post-editing, but she also makes it clear that she has had at least some experience (if only second hand) with Canon and Windows and she doesn't see any inherent advantage of one over the other--it all comes down to personal taste. I've read other books that try and tell you that x is definitely better than y for such and such a task or whatever and usually this is where I usually start deciding that they don't really know first hand what they are talking about--they are just regurgitating things they have heard or they are trying to force their opinions on me.
All in all, it is a nice book. I'm not a professional photographer at all, but I do enjoy taking wedding photos for friends at their weddings (usually in addition a hired pro). I felt like this book offered a few good ideas.

Much Better Than I Thought It Would Be
By Randi Morse
This is my second year doing wedding photography. I remember when I first started - I'd joined a photography forum and was instantly told by dozens of other photographer to NOT attempt wedding photography unless I had trained under a photographer for a number of weddings. The area I live in, however, doesn't allow for that, so I was forced to learn the hard way - and it was definitely hard.
That's why when I read a brief synopsis of this book I was a bit turned off. It sounded like the author was trying to say that anyone who had a DSLR could handle running a wedding, and as I said, I learned the hard way that this just isn't so - and you can't redo wedding photos.
This book, however, was not focused on that (it may have only been a selling point to try to sell more books) but rather went through all sorts of things, from basics to more advanced techniques.
Most of the information in the book can be easily found online, however, so why did I give it four stars? The photos. Whenever I review a photography book I focus on the photos, because unless the author's photos can move you and stoke your imagination, there's no point in reading the book or listening to a word the author says. Michelle Turner's photos were simply amazing and I honestly had a hard time finding one in the book that I didn't like. They gave me great ideas and inspired me to try new things.
I'm very impressed by this book and am now headed to try to find Michelle Turner's website!!

Getting into Wedding Photography?
By Charles Flum
I am just starting out as a wedding photographer. Much of the material contained is common sense to anyone who has watched a photographer work a wedding. The reason I give it 4 stars is there are many, many nuggets of valuable information. Depending on your knowledge, there will be different nuggets for different people. Contrary to some negative views, I think Ms. Turner's photos give great examples of the points she is making. One nugget, for example, is to make sure you photograph the venue. The couple spent time picking that particular spot. Her photographs support her assertion of shooting the venue.
This is not a 5 star review because the book is difficult to read. The type is incredibly tiny, perhaps 4 point. Normally, I do not need reading glasses. I can't read this book without them. I cannot imagine any newbie to wedding photography carrying this around for reference. S/he would never find what they need, going blind in the process. It should have been printed as a larger book. Content: great. Format: Terrible.
