The book examines practically all the important questions of current interests for nonlinear solid mechanics: plasticity, damage, large deformations, contact, dynamics, instability, localisation and failure, discrete models, multi-scale, multi-physics and parallel computing, with special attention given to finite element solution methods. The presentation of topics is structured around different aspects of typical boundary value problems in nonlinear solid mechanics, which provides the best pedagogical approach while keeping the book size reasonable despite its very broad contents. Other strong points�are the exhaustive treatment of subjects, with each question studied from different angles of mechanics, mathematics and computation, as well as a successful merger of� scientific cultures and heritage from Europe and the USA. The book content and style is also the product of rich international experience in teaching Master and Doctoral level courses, as well as the courses organized for participants from industry (IPSI courses) in France, and similar courses in Germany and Italy. A great overview of how to successfully sell your products or service using Facebook ads

I really enjoyed this book. Nicholas does a great job of explaining the basics of online marketing, especially for Facebook. One of the biggest takeaways I got from this book is that business owners and service providers can't think of Facebook the same way we think of Amazon and eBay. When people head to Amazon or eBay they have their credit cards out and are planning to buy something. They are already primed for a sale and are actually asking to be sold the exact thing they want. When people go to Facebook, they are there to socialize, see what friends and family in distant places are up to and maybe even check in on what their enemies and ex-es are doing as well. They don't have their credit card in their hands and they are not asking to be sold to. This is why Nicholas tells us the best way to use Facebook ads is to give and engage, not sell immediately or directly.

I have to admit that I was hoping to get a bit more technical, hands-on how-to in terms of making successful ads and retargeting (something I have yet to try myself). But I also realize that Facebook itself changes the technical details on a pretty regular basis, so any tech advice would probably date the book very quickly. Instead what you can expect here is a really good overview of the why, the what and the general how rather than the exact buttons to push and audiences to target or retarget. So even though I felt like I did "know" some of this stuff from reading other books and posts on the subject, the truth is that I have not been following this advice enough and I do feel like I can immediately take some of this advice to improve my interactions and conversions on Facebook.

There's some solid marketing theory in this book, but if you're looking for a bunch of hands-on, "how-to" advice, there isn't much here (although what is here is pretty decent). In the end I felt like the book gave me about half as much as thought it would.

Good but seen it before

I enjoyed this book. It did a great job of walking me through why marketing matters and how Facebook can be used to direct the right messaging to the right people.

But, I feel like I've read a lot of this before in other books and blogs. I was hoping for more tackle elements to be introduced but I'll settle for a few copywriting formulas I haven't seen before.

The author has a pleasant writing style and it was a fast read. If you're new to online marketing or thinking about getting into it, then this a great book to help you establish the right perspective.

At last the Haud was reached, and plenty of larger game, oryx and hartebeest, supplied the camp with meat, and the spoor of lions began to be found. A Somali soon brought news of the brutes themselves, and after a fast ride, Captain Melliss found himself for the first time in the presence of two full-grown lions.

"The absolute bliss of that moment is, of course, indescribable. Here I had two lions, actually waiting for me, all to myself, a vast plain on all sides, clear of jungle as a lawn, not another bush even in sight. I was going to get them—or they get me—that was the only uncertainty in the whole thing." Thus Captain Melliss describes what he considers a perfect situation; and, no doubt, while the freshness of novelty invested them with its glamour, such experiences must have been all that he tells us to one in whom that persistently developed ancestral instinct, the love of sport, is evidently found in its utmost intensity. Captain Melliss's simplicity or crudeness of writing is not without its merit, producing, as it does, the impression of veracity, of mere accurate reporting without the slightest striving after effect. One of his two first lions was black-maned—"a rich black on the shoulders, with bright deep yellow on the head and cheeks "—the other had a rich brown mane with a shade of red in it. The lions were quickly skinned, and the skins, with the great heads and paws intact, tied behind a couple of horsemen. A man may be permitted to break into rhapsody over his first day's lion shooting, and our author does so without hesitation or apology. "What a ride back was that over the breezy rolling ban! I shall never forget the pleasure of it. What a paradise the country seemed as my eyes wandered from the two great heads at the cruppers to the wild herds scattered over the plain! The Somalis, too, rejoiced. Men, women, and children flocked out from their zarebas to gaze at and touch the lions' head. It was after a very bad day's work, in which several antelopes were wounded but nothing brought to bag, that there commenced a run of luck with lions that may be fairly described as extraordinary. To begin with, two little lion cubs were captured and kept in the camp after the lioness had been shot, and, after waiting unsuccessfully a few days for the lion, Captain Melliss moved to a jungle not far from the mountains, a spot where he remained the rest of his leave. The first thing the party came upon, as they rode into this jungle, were two lionesses and two cubs. The lionesses were brought to bay and shot, one of them charging to within a few yards of the sportsman, and after a struggle the savage young cubs, much older and larger than the first •captured, were mastered. Four lions out of five fell in the next good day's sport, and then came a red-letter day, in the last hours of which he bagged five lionesses, though, being dead beat, he shot so badly at the fourth lioness that she very nearly caught him.
